First Baptist Owasso

This year [2007] First Baptist Owasso celebrates its 60th anniversary. In 1947 a small group of Believers in the Owasso area came together in a tent for a time of revival and renewal. Their purpose was simple. They wanted to honor God with every area of their lives and teach others to do the same. This revival lasted nearly 3 months. At the end of the revival it was decided that this group of Believers would form a church. That church was First Baptist Owasso.

For several years the church met in the old tent at First and Birch in Owasso until the newly formed congregation was able to build a Quonset Hut. This structure was later replaced by a cinder block building. As the congregation grew so did the need for more space. Trusting God and following the leadership of their pastor the church moved from First and Birch to 86tth Street between highway 169 and N. 129th Street East. At that time it was out in the country, and God continued to use the people of First Baptist Owasso to reach their community with the love and life changing message of Christ.

The community and the church continued to grow. In 1996 the people of First Baptist Owasso called a new Pastor, Dr. Roger Ferguson. With new leadership came new ideas with a fresh focus on our purpose to reach people with the love of Christ. Over the next 10 years the church grew from 250 to well over 1200 people every week. The building on 86th Street couldn’t contain us all so again we began the process to move into a new church home. While we were between church homes we met for a year and a half in the Owasso High School Performing Arts Center. Our Small Group Bible Study Sunday School Classes have met literally all over Owasso in the Lanes at Coffee Creek, Loving Eye Care, Panera Bread, Northeast Elementary and many other Owasso locations. In 2002 we moved into a 60,000 square foot Worship facility on 20 acres located on East 96th Street North in Owasso. 2 years later we completed a 60,000 square foot Education Center along with a Student Building called the Terminal as well as supporting buildings for our Children’s Preschool Ministries.

The church continues to grow and the ministry God has enabled us to do together continues to expand. LifePoints as the broadcast ministry of First Baptist Owasso can be seen twice a week on Fox23 every Sunday morning at 6:00am and Thursday morning at 1:00am. Recently LifePoints has gone nation wide on the all digital Variety Television Network and can be seen from Fresno, California to Syracuse, New York and many places in between.

Over 60 years the buildings we have met in have changed many times, but our purpose remains the same. We are leading people to become fully devoted followers of Christ. Every day we hear more stories of life change. Each week we see God do wonders in the lives of the people of our community. God is using the people of First Baptist Owasso to accomplish His purpose in Owasso, Tulsa, Green Country and around the world. We would be honored for you to join us on this great adventure!
