Antioch Baptist Church

Antioch Baptist Church, Inc. is located 1 block west of Cincinnati Ave on 56th Street North. Rev. M. C. Potter, Pastor, is responsible for the ministries, business and overall workings of the church. And Rev. Andrea Clark, Assistant Pastor is accountable for Evangelism and the work of the Auxiliaries. Antioch’s history began with a pastor led by the Holy Spirit along with a handful of faithful warriors, who sold dinners, held rummage sales, washed cars, gave monthly musicals, obeyed leadership, prayed earnestly and remained steadfast in the Lord.

Antioch Baptist Church’s mission is to join Jesus Christ by faith to serve as His reconciling community of which Christ is the head.

Our Church Vision Statement - "Lord the Harvest is truly plentiful but the laborers are few. Give me the heart and spirit of a disciple so that You may use me as an instrument in Your hands as You reconcile the community unto Thyself. Lord, use me!"

Antioch began on September 12, 1959. Prior to the first service Sunday School and Prayer Meeting were held in the home of the founder, Rev. Cecil Lawrence Potter. A week later, on September 12, 1959, the Rev. Cecil Lawrence Potter & the infant church held its first service located at 1423 N. Lansing. The newly organized church only had twelve members and had to borrow four temporary members from New Jerusalem Baptist Church to have sixteen members, enough to form a quorum.

On January 1, 1980, God called Rev. C. L. Potter home. The Antioch family was grief stricken but not abandoned. In February of 1980, Rev. M. C. Potter was formally installed as Antioch’s Pastor. The transition was smooth. Antioch continues to grow both physically and spiritually under the leadership of Rev. M. C. Potter. Auxiliaries and ministries established under his leadership include the first Youth of the Year Pageant, Singles Ministry and Marriage Ministry, Junior Deacons, Senior Adult Ministry and the Young Men for Christ Youth Group.

With the blessing of an ever growing membership, finding a new location to accommodate the growing church presented several challenges. Eventually 110 W. 56th Street North was revealed as the new site for Antioch. The new location meant more than a facility large enough to accommodate the membership for worship; it also meant a facility to house the many ministries. On Wednesday, March 5, 2002, members of Antioch gathered to clean, marvel at, and praise God for their new home. Rev. Potter asked for God’s vision of Antioch.

On Sunday, March 17, 2002, the first worship service was held in the new facility. God has again smiled on Antioch. For seven years they have been working toward that day. There were times along the way when they questioned if they would ever get there, but questioning gave way to faith and faith brought them through. God continues to reveal His vision, and Antioch continues to be “THE CHURCH THAT TRIUMPHS."
