Central Church of the Nazarene

What to Expect

You are invited to join us for any of the services at Central Church. If you would like to visit for the first time, we suggest you try Sunday morning worship. We want you to feel comfortable when you visit so here's what you can expect in a typical Sunday service.

Music
We usually begin with words of welcome followed by a passage of scripture. Then we spend a few minutes singing as a congregation. Music at Central Church is a mixture of contemporary Christian songs combined with some of the standard and best-loved hymns of the church. The words are always shown on the screen and the congregation is encouraged to sing along.

One of the members of the pastoral staff will greet the congregation and then ask everyone to say hello to those around them and perhaps introduce themselves to someone they haven't met before. If you are visiting, you can count on meeting some of Central Church's regular attendees this way.

Sermon
Then one of the pastors will bring a Bible-based sermon presented in a teaching style. Often times, the service ends in prayer or another song.

Dress
As for what to wear, ours is a casual atmosphere. Some people come wearing their Sunday best while others attend in more casual work type attire. Some people wear shorts and flip-flops. Please wear whatever you feel most comfortable wearing.

Services at Central Church are designed to be worshipful, community-building experiences that make it possible for all of us to have an encounter with God. We look forward to having you with us soon.

A Brief History of Central Church

In 1936, there were two churches of the Nazarene in Tulsa—Tulsa First, located in what was then considered the eastern part of Tulsa; and West Tulsa, located across town and on the other side of the Arkansas River. It was not hard for anyone to see the need for a Church of the Nazarene located somewhere between those two extremes.
