Greenwood Christian Center

Greenwood Christian Center was birthed by Bishop Gary and Pastor Debbie McIntosh in September 1998. But, the conception of Greenwood began even before then in the hearts of two intercessors blindly studying the history of Tulsa. For years they prayed for the city. They prayed for strategy, vision and reconciliation. In the wee hours of the morning while delivering newspapers the spirit of God began to reveal His will for the North Side. But, it wasn't until early 1998 that God spoke to a man to begin the work already revealed.

Standing at the historic corner of Greenwood and Archer, the site of our nation’s most horrific race riots, a man named Gary McIntosh heard the voice of the Lord. He was commanded to take off his shoes, kneel, and receive a commission to start a church dedicated to the radical transformation of the Greenwood Community.

He was quickly obedient, asking for the release and blessing of his pastor (which he received readily). He and his wife, Debbie, began a bible study in their home in September of 1998. This handful of people grew to 100 over the next four months and there were a staggering 300 people at the Church's first official service on January 3, 1999. From there the church began meeting in the Fairview Mansion Auditorium until it was too packed to stand and they moved into their first home at 1st and Detroit, in the heart of downtown Tulsa.

The downtown facility was a wonderful home for Greenwood for two years. It was a place of establishment and life. It was there that Greenwood really began to take shape and God began calling foundational people to join the ministry. But, in April 2002 there was no more room for the expansive growth. So God created a miracle.

After just 3 short years, God gave Greenwood the chance to purchase its own home. Through a series of miracles, the church moved into 1519 W Pine, an old Food Lion building largely in disrepair. But, after long sleepless weeks and thousands of volunteer hours, Greenwood held its first service in its new home on Easter Sunday morning, 2002.

This first home was the beginning of the real work. Establishing itself in the community and making an impact one neighbor at a time. Now 7 years from Bishop McIntosh's first vision, Greenwood Christian Center stands with a leadership base of 200 people and a membership of over 1,000. This humble vision birthed in prayer has come to life in a radical way.
