Owasso Church of Christ

This congregation started meeting in early April, 1955. We started out on West Thomas St., now known at 2nd Street in Owasso. The building was very small and a new cement block building was constructed in 1957. We moved into our present site in 1973 and have added on to it a couple of times in more recent years.

In 1982 the Owasso School of Biblical Studies began and was directed by Dwayne Hendricksen (the preacher then). The school meets on Saturday mornings from 8:30 AM to 12 noon. There are four classes offered and taught by ministers of the churches of Christ in the area. Anyone is welcome to attend whether they are members of the churches of Christ or not. There is no tuition. The only cost would be for a text book that is assigned. The school is designed for those who want more in-depth Bible knowledge. The
classes are a step up from normal church Bible classes and will involve testing for those wanting to graduate from the school. Those auditing the class don't have to take tests. The fall semester begins on September 8 and runs through December 15. Classes this fall include 1) Luke 2) Judges & Ruth 3) The Holy Spirit 4) Isaiah

A prison work was begun in 1986. Ralph Hunter was the prison minister from 1986 to 2003 and still does some part time jail ministry. Ron Hass is the current full-time prison minister supported by this congregation, several others & individuals. He travels regularly to the Mack Allford facility in Stringtown, Ok., Jess Dunn Correctional Facility in Taft, Ok., The John Lilley facility in Boley, Ok., Northeastern Ok. Correctional Center in Vinita, and the David L. Moss facility in Tulsa.

We don't have an official slogan or mission statement but everybody here understands that our reason for existing finds its basis between 2 passages of Scripture. The first is the great commission in Mark 16:15-16, taking the gospel message to the lost world. The second passage is Ephesians 4:15-16, being a body of believers who speak the truth in love and help each other to grow and mature in Christ with heaven as our goal. We are a group of friendly, giving, forgiving people who care enough to tell the hard truth that will change lives and eternal destinies. Our message may not be popular and our assemblies are not meant to entertain. We come together to worship God according to His New Testament will. We are unique in our approach to the Bible and refreshingly simple.

The individuals and families of this congregation are great. They are as involved and important as any paid staff person. We offer free Bible studies (one-on-one, or through correspondence) for those interested in more information and Bible answers to their spiritual questions. We never charge the community for anything we do. We also make available at no charge a tract called, "Churches of Christ, Who are These People?" and a DVD of 6
lessons titled, "Searching for Truth."

If anyone would like a copy of either they can contact us by phone: (918) 272-1564 or through our web site
