Seeing the need for a church in what was then south Tulsa, the Park Plaza church family first met in a local elementary school. There were 75 present for the first worship service in July of 1963. With dreams of becoming a church that effectively ministered to the needs of its community, a choice piece of property, consisting of 5 1/2 acres, was purchased. Eventually, a 29,000 square foot building was constructed on the site. In April of 2001, construction of an additional 25,000 square feet was completed.

Churches of Christ have a rich heritage in America's religious past. The Park Plaza Church of Christ, like most churches of Christ, is part of a movement to establish the unity of all Christians by following the Bible only. Our forefathers, part of the "restoration movement" of the 19th century, desired to do away with creeds and denominational divisions. Our quest is not to restore the church of the first century. Rather, our goal is to pursue the Jesus they pursued. Park Plaza's ministry opportunities are many. There is a place for everyone to "plug in" and serve their neighbors. Whether it is service in a ministry to the community, or service in a ministry to your fellow church members, you are needed and wanted! Just browse through the different ministries and don't be afraid to jump right in.

Ministries are the heart and soul of every church. It is in service to others that we can truly become more like Jesus. Often, being a part of a ministry helps not only the people being served, but also the people doing the serving. Being of service to others changes the lives of everyone involved.
