This week we get the scoop from Pastor Calvin Battle, Associate Pastor at Greenwood Christian Center on this spotlight congregation.
Where are you located?
We are on the corner of Pine and Union 1 block east of the Gilcrease Museum.
What's the best way to get there, given all the freeways into the area?
Take any major highway into downtown Tulsa, Exit the L.L. Tisdale Parkway go approximately 1 mile and Exit Pine Street. Turn Left onto Pine and Greenwood will be one block down on your right hand side.
Are you affiliated with a denomination?
We are a non-denominational church. We have been described as charismatic, evangelistic, apostolic, and just plain radical but, we would be best identified as a full gospel family. We believe in the Word of God, the whole Word, and nothin’ but the Word.
Tell us about your church history...
Bishop Gary and Pastor Debbie McIntosh began Greenwood Christian Center as a bible study in their home in late 1998. Their vision was to touch a city by raising up a people and they did just that. Only four short months later they had their first service with 300 people in attendance. They met for months in the Fairview Mansion and from their first meeting Greenwood began to pick up steam and build a reputation for being a House of God with an anointed word, a family atmosphere and usually some pretty kickin’ music. From the mansion, GCC graduated to an eclectic building downtown. It maintained it’s family atmosphere while building a fantastic children’s church, a new cutting edge youth ministry, and the constant revelation of the Word of God. The church started growing explosively as people from everywhere found a home at Greenwood. Once the downtown building was packed out Greenwood bought their first new home on the corner of Pine and Union. There they began building the vision of touching a city through raising up a people. It was an ambitious vision to achieve and God was faithful to give Bishop Gary divine strategies on touching people exactly where they were at and bringing them into the fullness of what God desired for them to be. Today Greenwood is the home of approximately 1,200 people from all different walks of life. Thanks to God’s dream to reach each individual person in our city and Greenwood’s commitment to make God’s dreams a reality.
