New Year's Resolution

By Dee Sokolosky

New Year’s Resolutions

A few practical suggestions that might last well into the second quarter:

1. Words of encouragement. Pick someone each week that could use a word of encouragement or a note of thanks. Send them a hand written note or card.

Drink water instead. It is better for your body and you will save $500 this year.

2. Lose 10 pounds. You won’t miss them and your heart will thank you for it.

3. Save $500. Forego the unneeded Diet Coke or iced tea with lunch or dinner. Drink water instead. It is better for your body and you will save $500 this year.

4. Be benevolent. Know any overpaid pastors? I don’t. Pick a favorite church staff person and make their day with a gift certificate for dinner or just good old cash.

Read a book on a topic that interests you, and then pick one that may stretch you a bit.

5. Read a book. If the last book you read was a textbook, it has been too long. Grow your mind. Read a book on a topic that interests you, and then pick one that may stretch you a bit.

6. Support your school’s teams. Ever been to a cross-country meet or a volleyball match? Football and basketball games receive lots of attention, but those other kids train pretty hard, too.

7. Turn off the television. I just read an article that said the television is on 11 hours per day in the average U.S. home. Pick one night of the week to keep the television off, then maybe you can read a book (see #5), encourage a kid (see #6), take a walk (see #2), write a letter (see #1), or buy a gift certificate (see #4).

Bettering yourself & others simply requires stepping out.

Blessings,
